Our "survival" cannot be the ultimate point of reference in our world. We must not treat ourselves as God. This selfless life enables us to do for the first time what we want to do: be truthful, transparent, helpful and sacrificially loving with joy.

Welcome to our online discussion of Dallas Willard and Jan Johnson's Renovation of the Heart in Daily Practice: Experiments in Spiritual Transformation. Each day, Monday-Friday, I will post the title of that day's chapter and maybe an excerpt from the chapter. Your mission, should you choose to accept it, will be to read that day's selection from the book then click on the comment link and add your $.02 to the conversation. If you are a highlighter maybe just share what you highlighted and why you highlighted it. Maybe something really resonated with you as you tackled that day's experiment, share that with us. Maybe, as happened with me, the first time I read the book, God will reveal something to you. This is a good one for where I am at the moment I am all over the place spiritually its like i set up the footings for the foundation in sections instead of doing it all at once. but I feel it may be done in sections but its put together pretty solid!!!
I believe That I have become pretty truthful and helpful and I am still a work in progress!
That's all of us Mikey, works in a progress. If we stay connected to God He will keep us growing and changing until the day we die.
That thought gives me a lot of hope.
"It is love of God, admiration and confidence in his greatness and goodness, and the regular experience of his care that frees us from the burden of looking out for ourselves." I love this quote from DW. I am under his care 24/7, but often don't take the time or awareness to experience it. And to re-frame "looking out for ourselves" as a burden - yep, it is a burden.
God, release me from the need to look out for myself. Replace it with a hunder and thirst for you.
